Who are Iambe Advisory?

We are a small independent firm of accountants and business advisors, providing a range of services to businesses at various stages of their development and growth.

Our Mission Statement

At Iambe Advisory, we are passionate about providing meaningful, timely and reliable advice to business owners who have worked hard to bring their ideas to life. We are as passionate as you when it comes to wanting to drive the business forward, and are keen to work with you in order to realise your long-term aims for the business.

Why are we called Iambe Advisory?

The origins of our company name came from my daughter, unwittingly, as she started to learn to speak at the age of one: her name is Beatrice and we often call her simply “B”. Her retort would be to tell her parents “I am B”, or rather "IAmBe".

Iambe in Greek mythology is a minor goddess or nymph of verse, humour, and merriment, often credited with cheering up the grieving goddess Demeter through bawdy humor and lewd antics. A Thracian woman and daughter of Pan and Echo, she is closely associated with the invention of iambic poetry.

In the Homeric "To Demeter", while the goddess was mourning the abduction of her daughter Persephone, Iambe was the only one who managed to make Demeter laugh and smile again by using witty jokes and, according to some interpretations, a lewd, obscene exhibition:

Who is the Founder - Andrew Bithray

Andrew graduated from Imperial college London before embarking on a career as a chartered accountant. Andrew’s first role was on a graduate training programme with the Top 100 accountancy firm WSM, based in Wimbledon, South-West London, where he qualified as a chartered accountant in 2003.

Till Iambe, who was knowing and careful, placed for her
A fixed seat, and draped a bright-shining fleece over it.
There she sat down, and held a veil in front of her.
For a long time she sat on the couch without speaking, sorrowing,
Nor did she embrace anyone in word or deed.

But without laughing and not tasting food or drink
She sat wasting away in longing for her deep-girdled daughter,
Till Iambe, who was knowing and careful, with jests
Made many jokes and turned the mood of the divine lady,
By smiling and laughing, and keeping her heart gracious:
So she pleased the goddess afterwards with her kindly temperament.

In 2005 Andrew decided to make a move to the private equity firm, CDC Group plc, as a group financial controller. Here he was able to gain experience working in-house, gaining skills and knowledge in management accounting and reporting, working with businesses around the world, notably in Mauritius, India and the wider Asia-subcontinent.

Andrew returned to WSM in 2007 as a client director taking on a portfolio of clients across a range of sectors, with a focus on those which had certain technical challenges. Andrew was made a partner of the firm in 2014 following which he had overall responsibility for the corporate team, including the promotion and well-being of the 25-strong team, and the provision of pro-active and quality deliverables to clients.

Andrew qualified as a chartered tax advisor in 2016, adding to the service offering he was able to make to clients and enabling him to identify and advise on a variety of tax planning and compliance matters.

Following Andrew’s venture into fatherhood in 2019 and again in 2021, he decided to setup Iambe Advisory which enabled him to dedicate time to both work and family, and allow him the opportunity to work directly with clients where he believes he can make real change and improvement.
