The origins of our company name came from my daughter, unwittingly, as she started to learn to speak at the age of one: her name is Beatrice and we often call her simply “B”. Her retort would be to tell her parents “I am B”, or rather "IAmBe".
Iambe in Greek mythology is a minor goddess or nymph of verse, humour, and merriment, often credited with cheering up the grieving goddess Demeter through bawdy humor and lewd antics. A Thracian woman and daughter of Pan and Echo, she is closely associated with the invention of iambic poetry.
In the Homeric "To Demeter", while the goddess was mourning the abduction of her daughter Persephone, Iambe was the only one who managed to make Demeter laugh and smile again by using witty jokes and, according to some interpretations, a lewd, obscene exhibition:
